Sustainability

PCF (Product Carbon Footprint)

The PCF represents the key method to determine the environmental impact of a product. This method considers the entire lifecycle of a product - starting from the extraction of raw materials through production and use, to recycling or disposal. In each of these phases, emissions are released contributing to the greenhouse effect and thus impacting the climate.

The following system boundaries are reported:

  • Cradle-to-Cradle represents the development of products that can be fully returned into new products or natural cycles at the end of their life span. The goal is to create a closed loop without waste, by continuously reusing materials. The steels and plastics used can be reintroduced into the cycle without loss and used for the production of new steel products.

  • Cradle-to-Gate refers to the evaluation of the environmental impacts of a product from raw material extraction to the completion in the factory. This includes capturing direct emissions and energy consumption until the product leaves the factory, without including the usage and disposal phase. Thus, it assesses the environmental impacts for which mbo as a manufacturer is directly responsible.

  • Due to the 100% recyclability of the steels and plastics used, the usage of Cradle-to-Grave approach is omitted in favor of Cradle-to-Cradle. At the end of its use, the product does not become waste, but remains a valuable raw material for new steel and plastic products, thereby actively contributing to a closed loop and resource efficiency.

Cradle-to-Cradle

PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances)

In February 2023, a ban on PFAS was proposed in the context of REACH. The six-month evaluation phase began on 22.03.2023. A decision by the EU Commission is not expected before 2025. Therefore, PFAS contained are also not listed in the SCIP entries and are only listed for informational purposes.
No PFAS included

RoHs (Restriction of Hazardous Substances)

The product does not contain - with the exception of lead, if listed above as SVHC - any substances listed in Annex II of Directive 2015/863/EU in its current version above the established maximum concentrations in homogeneous material.

Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS) and its amending directives 2018/736 to 2018/742 allow the use of "lead as an alloying element in steel for machining purposes and in galvanized steel containing up to 0.35% by weight" as an exemption 6a in Annex III. This exemption expires for certain categories of equipment from 21.07.2021. The review regarding the usability in the lead-containing products listed below in this context is your responsibility. A further extension of this exemption is currently under review by the EU.
